Embrace Your Mistakes?
By Cynthia VanLandingham

Article Summary:

Avoiding mistakes is a recipe for error that will keep you from making the decisions necessary to move ahead. Read this article for insights on how to embrace your mistakes to gain the clarity and wisdom that comes from courage and experience.

Article:

Do you have good instincts? Do you trust your judgment? Are you afraid to make decisions? Do you act with intention?

A great deal of high-level thinking occurs out of a history of experience. But most of us don't give ourselves the kind of exposure and experience we need to tap into these powers. Why? Because we can't accept the fact that mistakes are a part of growing. So, instead of going for the gold, which takes, well, guts (courage, persistence), we settle for easy, short-term goals that quickly give us the illusion of accomplishment. Sadly, this ignores our potential and leaves us feeling less than fulfilled.

Please, don't be afraid to spend time setting long-term, meaningful goals that will give you clear direction, so you can live a life of purpose and act with intention.

Most people never learn to act with intention because it takes a significant amount of thought, time and effort. In the long-run, however, it's worth your time to develop long-term goals that will be meaningful over time.

To do this, commit to keeping a journal to help you gain more clarity on what is really important to you, your objectives. Then figure out what steps you can take to accomplish these, your goals. Above all, write them down! Then, remember that this is an ongoing process of improvement. Don't expect to gain clarity overnight. You can re-evaluate your objectives and goals and make changes as you go along. Now, make some decisions and act on them. Don't let your worry over making a mistake keep you from taking action.

According to Steve Pavlina you should embrace your mistakes.

"Let go of the idea that your decisions must be perfect. The more decisions you make, the more mistakes you'll make. Often that's exactly what you need to do because there are many situations where the correct decision can only be recognized after a series of mistakes. Clarity grows with experience, and experience comes from making mistakes."

With enough consistent time and experience your objectives and goals will begin to crystalize around your values, so that you can act with more confidence and purpose. This is an honest and realistic path to greater awareness and more conscious living because it builds mistakes into the process. Anything else is just an illusion.
